As an aerospace engineer in the helicopter industry, I agree that helicopters aren't especially useful for intra-/inter-urban transport.
However, they are incredibly useful for military operations, medevac, construction, logging, servicing oil farms, servicing offshore wind farms, firefighting, and huge variety of other uses.
If you think that helicopters are only used by rich people flying from an NYC skyscraper to the Hamptons then you're an idiot.
The interesting thing is that a lot of early helicopter designers imagined the helicopter being used as a flying car or personal air transport. Obviously that hasn't happened yet, mostly due to helicopters being complicated as hell and unintuitive to fly, but I have a feeling we'll see some pretty exciting developments regarding urban eVTOL operations in the next few decades.
