1x is fine for situations where it doesn't matter how long it takes for you to get the the correct gear, or if you even have the correct gear at all to maintain optimal cadence.
I just can't actually think of any situation like that. It's a HUGE step backwards in function.

"Whoops I hit the bottom of a dip or valley and now I need to start spinning again. Just give me a while to dump my entire cassette..."

It's legitimately awful. 1x is objectively worse in every way than a friction-shift ten speed.
