So I bought a used bike and the indexed rear shifter has 8 speeds but there are only 7 sprockets on the cassette. I suspect he stole the bicycle and left the original rear wheel locked to something and then got a replacement rear wheel (the front wheel is the same brand as the bike itself whereas the rear doesn't even have any branding and is different in design). Either way, the problem is that I can't get all 7 speeds to work properly. I feel like the pitch is different than it should be for the shifter, but the shifter, the derailleur and the replacement wheel's cassette are all Shimano.
I also can't get the front derailleur to work properly either (also an indexed shifter). I have to shift down from highest chain wheel to lowest and then back up to the 2nd, otherwise if I just shift down to 2nd it won't come off from 3rd wheel. Maybe the chains wheels are too far apart? Or maybe the chain itself is fucked somehow?
Also on the rear cassette the smallest sprocket is loose as fuck. The rest are solid. Is this normal?
