>>1768591>>1768593I know I'm a very visual learner, so maybe this helps you as well. On a square taper setup, the bearings go inside of the frame and the spindle is part of the bottom bracket. Then the arms bolt to the spindle.
On a Hollowtech (and other similar setups (Hollowtech is what Shimano calls theirs)), the bearings sit in cups outside of the frame and the spindle is built into one of the crank arms.
