>>1206036I'm not fast or strong, I'm just hardened and I ride trying to be efficient so I end riding at a pretty slow pace, around 20-23km/h average on terrain with 600-700m of climb each 100km.
The only time I ate something (just a couple of small sandwiches, first at 80k, second one at 120km) was when I tried the classic reddit's CENTURY ™ last year on summer and ended doing almost 185km with 2km of climb and I drank around 2L of water. I took my time since I was riding solo unsupported and was my first attempt at a really long ride, I don't know the amount of time I spent, but probably around 8h averaging 19-20km/h with plenty of small breaks (every 45 minutes a 5 minute stop). At the end of the ride I felt like I could ride for another 35-40km before being completely tired.
Used pic related and the ride was really nice, that's why I'm shilling B'twin road bikes every time I can, I have two from that brand, and the Ultra 900AF performs really well considering it's cheaper and from a non traditional cycling brand, every time I ride It I like it more. The only thing I really don't like is the rear brake, it gets pretty dirty.
Personally, I don't feel the need of a higher tier bike because a cheap and good bike like that offers a lot of performance for an average amateur rider like me.
