I wanna buy my roommate a bike for her birthday, as she doesn’t own a car and commutes to work on an old bso and often complains about hills. What kind of bike/frame should I be looking at? I’m a mountain biker and don’t know anything about road bikes, should I look into gravel/all road? Are drop bars uncomfortable for people who don’t care about aero and are used to flat bars? If I build a frame (and assume flat bar) can I use some of my spare mtb derailleurs/brakes to save money or is it more worth getting a complete bike? She’s also fairly short so I’m thinking it’d be easier to find the right size brand new rather than used, is height + inseam enough to choose a road bike size? Also how can I stealthily measure her inseam? Willing to spend a good amount of money (think midrange) to make riding and climbing more efficient but is that silly for what is essentially a commuter? If her size is smaller than normal, are custom road bikes frames crazy expensive (700-1000 frames)?
