>>1479402I usually don't plan a route except I know vaguely where I want to go that day and then just pick routes as I go. If I'm going through built up areas I play a version of the 'red-light-green-light' to minimize stopping time: red means take a right, green means straight or take a left, and that tends to generate a reasonable amount of variety of routes.
>>1479408These are truly unanswerable questions: the ones about specs are pointless since you're talking about old bikes and one of them is certainly not original at this point - you can do pretty much whatever you want with those frames and both will fit moderately wide CX tires. Similarly with fit, there's no way we can answer that with any degree of confidence since we don't know anything about the size of these frames or what you're usually comfortable on. I would suggest picking up the cheap Le Tour and riding both to see which you're more comfortable riding on rough surfaces.
