>>1945804Don't use a thumbie. Clamp a downtube shifter either on the downtube or on the seat tube. You can also clamp pulleys on your frame to re-direct the cable if need be. You can also use any clamp with the m5 boss to attach a regular downtube shifter, like the problemsolver water bottle cage ones.
Dia Compe still makes nice clamp on DT shifters.
But these kinds of things are relatively ubiquitous in parts bins and even nice ones are not really desirable so should be cheap or very free. Same for stem shifters, if you wanted to run some housing as well. Stem shifters (nice ones, suntour, shimano, etc) actually make the best thumbies, short of fancy ones. Friction shifters preform better without that extra run of housing though, so generally, thumbies are not the best and especially on a folder, or a tourer, having less housing around your cockpit is good.
