You don't want coast-to-coast trains, because even with the security theater, planes are faster. You want regional, intercity, trains. That's where all the benefits are.
Regions like the Texas Triangle, the Northeast Corridor, the West coast of California, are ideal for HSR because those cities are too close to fly and too far to drive. That's the market where HSR works best.
