That said, Chicago-St Paul is a line that would make for an excellent case study on improving the lines for long-distance rail. At ~450 miles, it's not an insurmountable distance to redevelop infrastructure to include high-speed or even electric lines, could realistically see a return on investment due to ticket sales between two metropolitan areas, and it's still long enough to be a relevant line to a long distance infrastructure plan.
