>>1217155sure thing man! i too trained on my touring bike for a while for lack of a more fitting option so i'm no stranger to the occasional fred-sneer but just make some sensible upgrades for comfort (scour craigslist for an entry-level sport saddle someone immediately took off of their newly-bought fredsled for $10-20 to replace that bulky avocet your grandpa might still have left on it and invest in a pair of padded shorts to go with it) and power-delivery (foot retention: toe-clips at the least or spring for spd or spd-sl pedals and the appropriate shoes)
another thing you can do is to get a secondhand stationary trainer for cheap. i got one of these ancient things for 45 dollars but i've since seen even better models for even less where i live. set it up in your garage, basement, or backyard and do spinning routines for an hour. great training whether you want to avoid judgmental glares, it's the offseason, or you get the urge to ride but it's like, say, 3am in the morning. these things are also super for you because you can really dial in the fit a lot better than when you're out on the road, riding over varying terrain.
