Many things, cycling especially, that involve suffering, the suffering is the appeal, and desirable/ deliberate suffering, is an alien and perverse concept to people struggling to live, but a necessary and fulfilling part of life for a rich and contended person, to strengthen them, and make them feel alive.
Likewise community, public spaces, transport, and life outside your own bubble is something only afforded to people who live in harmonious societies.
Garish displays of wealth are for the nouveau rich. A billionare will wear a plain tshirt and people from Scandinavia will ride bicycles and catch public transport.
