> Chain guides for a double do exist tho.I am talking about pic and not the lower ideler wheel.
> The first clutched rear mech was a Shimmy XTR rd-m985 availble as a SGS and GS versions for triple and double ring setupsAnd yet the first thing people did with it was 1x.
> 1x road _is_ happening at some point.I am not saying it wont. But outside of a crit, time trial, or hill climb bike 1x isn't viable for the road because you do not have sufficient gear range and the jumps between gears is too large for managing your cadence.
> On your typical 1x that is going to require three-four clicksYou are missing my point. On a 1x you are able to maintain a suitable gear ratio for the gradient whilst keeping the power on by shifting up and down the cassette as the gradient decreases and increases. You will never have a shift that is going to put you at a gear ratio that is unsuitable for the gradient you are on like you would on a 2x. i.e. you hit a steep pinch and have to shift down on the front mech putting you at too low of a gear ratio requiring you to spam up shift on the rear mech to get a suitable gear ratio.
