Go into a proper bike shop and ask for a Trek Marlin or equivalent and aim to buy the *second* cheapest model (nicer if you have the money, cheapest model is meh but still way better than walmart). You want hydraulic brakes and anything-except-three gears in front (one is best). Expect to spend $700-$750ish.
