>>1133949In every debate about LHT vs RHT the 'muh right handedness' argument always gets used by both sides. The 66% of the world that drives on the right, however, is wrong about RHT being right-handed. 'You need your right hand to do the delicate action of changing gears and your left which is less dexterous uses the wheel' they say, which is absolutely braindead because you need far more dexterity for your steering wheel not your gearstick.
LHT is and always has been the right-handed way to travel. That's why people in the ancient world travelled on the left. They were prepared to shake hands with a stranger and unlikely to cross their sword sheaths. When jousting, the knights held their lances in their right hands and approached as per LHT.
Then enter Napoleon, who in his arrogance changes the traffic to the other side. He would leave a lasting effect across Europe of converting to RHT that would spread like a plague across 66% of the world.
Your elevator argument is also irrelevant. If someone has trouble supporting themselves with one arm and standing on an elevator, it's not going to matter which arm they use.
TLDR: Australian elevators are one of the few that aren't pozzed by Napoleon.
