normies who don't know anything about cycling like them because "racing" bikes are alien to them, they just want a "normal" bike based on the aesthetic of the bike. at least in my country, even the expensive new ones are made with shitty hi-ten steel, some people get literally 100 year old bikes for the springy steel quality.

things like being exposed to adverse weather for a longer period of time for the same distance traveled, a dutch bike has tons of disadvantages, most experienced cyclists won't ride them, maybe they'll get a 90s mtb as a cheap bike to run errands with but not a dutch bike, they know that the upright seating position is a shitty meme etc

a hybrid like trek fx is very reasonable, you get almost as good performance as a road bike and you get mounting points for racks and fenders and the higher tier ones have a carbon fork which smooths out road vibrations
