>>972102Is it the stock BB? I have had 9/10 speed XTs an also tapped them through with a rubber mallet. Think about it, replacing the BB will be pretty cheap
>>972039>can I just use the old one my parents have? It has gears and seems to work fine.Yeah do that. Consider taking it to a shop and bringing a compatible set of Koolstop pads with you. You might need to replace the chain and cables, depending on how rusty they are. But the shop can give it a tune up for cheap if it's not too messed up
Ride that and see if you like it. If it's uncomfortable, that's not biking's fault, so focus on the fun of riding before you decide the hobby sucks. A nice, light, modern bike fit to your body is worlds better than a random basement bike
And if you are overweight a good saddle and strong wheels might be a good investment
>>971962>I kept re-positioning them on the handlebars, but they continued to fall asleep no matter where I moved them.Is it a flat bar touring bike or drop bar?
If it's flat bar, consider ergon grips until you figure out the proper stem length + saddle position
