>the atrocious on time performance last year we got into Edmonton 42 hours late, it was almost a reccod. and yes it was VIAs fault, 2 of the EMDs broke down around Sudbury, first one of the engines we set out with had an axle-bearing fail, being winter we couldn't continue with 1 engine because it couldn't supply enough HEP to heat the entire train. Then they sent out 2 to replace it and one was shorting out the HEP, fortunately we still had two locos at this point.
>it's pretty expensive when compared to equivalent amtrak I don't know enough about Amtrack to know but it was on par with airfare during the holiday season only you are treated like a king instead of cattle. you have Michelin Star chefs cooking you brunch and dinner, damn the meals are SO FUCKING GOOD! its comfy, the cabins are small but you don't spend much time in your cabin, and it's nice to have 3 days with no wifi and little phone connection.
