>>1420283>But doesn't a short stem also cause twitchy steering?I would say that short stem makes steering less "intuitive" since bar line is not above the front wheel axle but behind it (also its slightly harder to countersteer since you dont throw your weight during steering that much), but twitchy steering is a combination os HA, rake which together make trail. Most modern mtb with short stem are anything but twitchy but that is because handling is a combination of everything, not just stem.
Another problem of short stems is that its harder to absorb bumps.

either way extra short stems with long travle slack HA mtb are sketchy since no weight about front suss.
