it's pretty flat around here. We have a few inclines, but nothing worse than 500m topping at 7%, and the odd bridge you have to get over, and 46x17 with spd pedals is quite enough to get up those without my knees exploding.
Plus, there's plenty of bicycle paths so riding is quite pleasant, and i have a CX bike with 700x32c tyres that I can take on my favourite trail (has gravel, tarmac, even some dirt/grass).
