>>1470126>that are now being undoneno
>>1469138 is wrong about a lot of things
except maybe that road bikes no longer run thin 23 mm tires
and disk brakes becoming standard on everything
Henri Desgrange and Paul de Vivie are still doing battle from beyond the grave
>But that's a good list.I manually went though a bunch of shimano catalogs and try to pick out the parts that either are still in use or have modern implementations
up until the 1960s shimano did not really have much innovation basically copy's of cheep french parts
in the 1970s they started to really go to war with their Japanese rivals by going all out with the gimmicks
by the 1980s shimano and other Japanese makers were starting to spook the conservative french and Italian bike makers
in the 1990s a buch of company's fell over suntour and EGS are notable as shimano benefited from that directly
it took the likes of lance Armstrong to start winning with shimano gear before the stigma of Japanese made parts started to abate more fully
but that's just one company and its interactions with its rivals its more than I can manage to study them all :)
>But how stagnant is bmx industry?hard to say as I dont really follow it
but I dont think it has changed as much as road bikes and mtb
if anything its gone backwards to more basic and uniform standard
there are no multi speed bmx anymore
but what I find interesting is that the bottom bracket of road bikes is moving towards a more chunky BMX type of size just a little thinner
