rim brakes dont weigh much
but on a heavy bike this consern goes away
at the top end of the envelope rim brake pads start melting
the rim its self wears quick and heats up like a boss
tires can heat up and explode
the rim can crush and capture the brake pads locking the wheel
in some cases the pad goes rouge and slashes the side wall of the tire
or gets stuck in the spokes
never mind what the rest of the system is doing with cables springs and levers if your braking surface is trying to explode its self
while also being some what integral to the wheels structure
