Neither choice impacts the other much at all beyond looks, and even if you actively judge randos by that, it's not as if most people are particularly attractive, helmet-or-not.
Barely anyone here is even arguing about the helmet's efficacy of protecting the head. Isn't 100%, could still get crippled/dead from a crash another way, but that's reducing the whole concept of harm reduction into an all-or-nothing deal.
Practically, the individual choice boils down to:
>How inconvenient you find helmets.
>How effective you believe helmets to be at harm reduction.
>Whether or not you believe the harm reduction to be a worth that inconvenience.
If you don't think you're going to crash, or crash in such a way that would cause significant brain damage, the only reason you'd ever wear a helmet is if you actually found it more enjoyable than wearing none at all.
