Road bike chainrings are likely a bit intense for hauling gear up hill and definitely not offroad.

I understand 7sp highend components dont exist anymore but the cheap ones last so long anyway, i get thousands of kms out of acera stuff. You can find 7sp anywhere and it takes about 30 mins to change a chain and casette.
Not to mention 7-8 sp compatible with eachother even the shifter cassette differences.
