And no, the logical solution isn’t to make a better front derailleur, this guy (eventually) pointed it out
>>1624163, shifting the chain on the tensioned side is retarded mechanically speaking, the trick is to get a centralized sealed derailleur system with a final output chain that always has perfect chainline. Throw a bunch of gears (6? 7? Who knows?) on the input side AND the output side and you’ll get a small compact system that can be moved practically anywhere on the bike at the expense of extra chain weight (not the weight of the cassettes since they’re smaller, fewer, and not built to withstand the elements. The weight will be in a better place (I love 1x but the hub is the WORST place to have extra weight), the chainline will always be perfect, you can shift pedaling forwards or backwards, and the chain will always be lubed and protected
