If it's a freewheel, the freewheel should click when spun backward.it's a single-speed. the rear triangle and dropouts are compatible with a derailleur and cassette if i ever want to go geared. it clicks, but it's nearly inaudible and has a definite cycle to it, like zzz...zzz...zzz if that makes sense to you.
