>>1469065Another american here, I went over to NZ and the car lanes there had maybe 4 inches of space on either side of your car. Googles says their road width is nominally around 10ft but I would have said 7 to 8ft wide as all the roads were sealed gravel and didn't heave curbs and where generally just smaller than that. It was pretty crazy getting used to but once you did it was nice. Did have the effect on people driving slower, like going 40 mph on freeways and 15 mph in towns. coming back the states, I could practically drive with my eyes closed, lanes can be up to 12 feet wide.
Our bike lanes are are 7 feet normally and 11 feet if they share space with roadside parking. Plus you can go in the car lane if you need to along as you 'act as a car'. This is something very nice.
