There ISN'T a superior choice. Both work great if you build your society around it. European countries prioritized public transport and it works great. America prioritized cars and it worked great too, there's just too many people nowadays. Unfortunately there's not enough room for everyone's cars anymore and it kills the environment so you gotta fix yo trains fix yo buses fix yo trams but that's not because a shitty hobo-filled subway system is somehow better than a road network that had decades of extensive development.
