>Zurich to gain NEW TROLLEYBUS LINES
>bus line 83 is to see signifcant upgrades very soon
>currently only operating during rush hour, at the end of the year it will instead run the whole day
>in the second half of 2020 it will be converted to trolleybus operation with 8 articulated trolleybuses
line 83 actually shares most of its length with a part of existing trolleybus line 72, so no new wires will be built for this line, instead it will run the 8 stops it doesn't share with line 72 on battery power, using hybrid trolleybuses. Zurich is trying to increase the profitability of their trolleybus network with hybrid lines, which aren't limited in range like regular battery buses, as they charge while running under wires.
>lines 69 and 80 are also to be converted to trolleybus operation
>for these lines NEW WIRES will be built, as the short line 69 only shares two stops with trolleybus line 72, and the longer line 80 only shares a short stretch of about two stops with trolleybus line 33
>it is not clear how much wiring will be built, as most likely hybrid trolleybuses will be employed for these lines as well. However especially line 80 will require a substantial amount of wiring.
>as the conversion of these lines will require a significant investment it is planned to convert line 69 by early 2024, and line 80 by mid 2025
