I'd love to be able to answer your question OP and i'll know more about decent mtbs when i'm not a poorfag. You should consider getting a higher spec used bike, 1-2 years old, that is being sold from lack of use not because it's been worn out. Also if you want to go on adventures with your mates start thinking about how you'd load it. There's lots of good ways. A backpack is an option but imo it's a terrible option.
