Excluding meme shit like 1x drivetrains and overly expensive brifters, that STYLE of bicycle is in my opinion as all-round as it gets. Rack & fender mounts. Efficient geometry but not racy. Sturdy enough. Maybe I guess put riser bars and trigger shifters instead of drop bars for a true all-round bike.
This STYLE of bike can exist in many forms though. Like taking an old 27inch road bike and putting 700c wheels on it. Or a cyclocross bike (minus the rack mounts). Or a 90's light-weight hybrid.
