The main purpose of the new tram extensions is to connect the station to Ratingen, Lichtenbroich, Rath, Mörsenbroich and Unterrath. Additionally, U72 in Ratingen has been lengthened a bit to improve network coverage.
- Line 707 has been extended to Flughafen Bahnhof via Quartier(n), making it possible to cut back SB51 to the airport terminal. Line 729 can be reduced to a local service in Unterrath and Stockum.
- Line 701 has also been extended to the station. Ending at possibly the worst end point imaginable before, it now runs through Lichtenbroich and is as an important line for the area.
- Line 702 is a more sensible version of the U82 plans. It bypasses Düsseldorf completely, only to run through Ratingen from east to west. Along the way, it stops at the education center in Ratingen West, the site for a possible S-Bahn station Ratingen-West, the city center and Ratingen Ost S. Connections can be made to U72 at Ratingen Mitte.
