Or frames built like compound bow frames.There kind of were, they just didn't have any commercial success. Google "John Castellano Bow-Ti" or "Ibis Bow-Ti" for more information. Also built-in flex is a concept in a lot of modern high end carbon parts, not just frames but also things like vibration dampening seatposts and handlebars.
