What do you guys think of Beijing's eastern suburb known as Yanjiao?
About 30km away from Central Beijing, population rapidly grow from 30k to 800k(some figures say 1.2M+) in past 2 decades, subway connection have been planned but not started yet, commute traffic mainly use buses, shared vehicles and private cars. Buses are crowded despite running with 1 minute interval, roads are congested with commute tine up to 4 hours depend on road situation although down to 1 hour is also possible, the town belongs to an exclave of a neighboring province and thus historically lack urban planning or zoning regulations (or implementation of zoning rules) which resulted in eveb higher population density than Beijing itself (although they are looking for planning unification). As an exclave, it also have to deal with lack of educational, medical, security and other resources as well as relatively high crime rate caused by lack of its status.
It have been expected, as Beijing further sweep unwanted population away from the city, the town could absorb even more population from Beijing which could further boost the town's function as a suburb to Beijing, but it would also further magnify the problem of the town itself.
If you are to become responsible for the town, what will you do to improve the town's situation?
