I think we might see 2 jetbridge gates become more and more popular with hub airports anyway. They're useful for far more aircraft than you might think. The fact that planes as small as an A321 can use them means that you can just do the same with the A330, the 787 and the larger widebodies, not forgetting the bigger beasts still around.
While travelling through Paris CDG airport, I noticed that one of the satellites in Terminal 1 could use 2 different gates to offer boarding onto a Qatar A380. Normally, these gates would serve 2 separate aircraft, narrow- or wide-body, but for the A380, their close proximity to each other allowed for the both of them to be in use for one A380 while being able to serve 2 separate flights after the A380 departed.
