>>1012083>>how do you guys orient yourselves over those long distances and going to places you dont know?I used to do the same little laps all the time because I didnt know the roads too well. Then I decided to get a GPS headunit. By plotting routes beforehand I have explored the area and gone on huge rides without ever needing to worry about getting lost, or slowing down to check where im going. I also now know the area very well and can do long rides without needing the directions. It costs a fair bit but its one of the best things I have bought.
Routebuilding has become a thing I enjoy now. I spend lots of time trying to figure out routes with as few as possible lights or crossings, and I check out roads and crossing on streetview to see if I could race through there without too much of a holdup. Feels so good when you nail a 100km ride without having to stop or slow down once because of the route. Ive got a ton of roads and bike paths available to me in the neverlands it allows me to do this kind of shit, in a murrikan grid you probably wont have much of a choice where you go.
Its all about how much you want to spend I guess, but if you have the money I would strongly recommend.
