Santa Fe 2-10-10-2 3000 Class. This beast is unusual for a number of reasons. It's an articulated locomotive. What looks like a ridiculously long boiler isn't. The boiler stops mid way along its length. There is a ball pivot at the mid point and after that is an overly long smokebox which contains a primitive superheater. Going around curves the "boiler" would bend in the middle. A few of these were built in 1902. By 1917 they were deemed unsuccessful and broken down and rebuilt as separate 2-10-2 locomotives. None survive today.
