Newfag here. Haven't ridden since I was a kid on a BMX style kids bike. Just got an MTB to learn on for fitness and a new hobbie. It's been an eye opener
>pain because the seat isn't a seat
>its a crotch support post
>legs turn to rubber after a few min of riding in low gear/not being able to sit
>having to push off to get onto the tall "seat"
>pedals and chain can go backwards
>this makes the pedaling clunky because I keep moving the pedals back then forwards on every stroke probably because the seat was too low
It's nothing like a BMX. Its completely different. No one tells you this. You don't even sit on the thing. You are perched way up on this thing and your feet don't touch the ground unless you hop down to the frame. Makes doing a sharp U turn a pain. Gotta hop down or fall over. Having a good time though. Getting a pounding heart just going up the paved hill near my house then flying down it and around my yard. Going to keep at it until I get my fitness up to speed for longer rides and then a kiddy trail. Whole new world. Got one last issue though.
>how do I stop the pedals from clunking? Its like they go backwards somehow at the top of the stroke and on the down stroke go free and then hit which feels weird as shit. Its not a smooth consistent pedaling motion. Its like its disconnected from the rear when then connected then disconnected again. I'm doing something wrong. I think the seat was too low and my pedaling stroke was fucking it up.
