Philly is a very idiot-proof city to get around; no 'units' no repeats like NYC where there can be two 'x and whatevers'.
I guess the horizontal streets are a learning curve since there's no logic to one kinda tree or another, but all you need to know is what side of what river you are one and how to count to 70.
Unlike Manhatten, I love how there are a billion alleys; not only are they there to piss/smoke, if you've managed to make a mistake, you can always cut through and walk around. And, because it's actually a fairly 'low' city in terms of buildings, it's very easy to navigate generally where you need to go on foot just by walking toward one building or another.
The only thing I hate is some trains becoming a bus at night, or having to catch the 24/7 trolley further up the line because the MFL went to bed for the night, and they share the same hub in CC.

Anytime I want to take it, I sit on my roof and smoke a joint until I see her cute little ass on the horizon and walk on down to ride her to CC for two bucks or whatever.
That being said, it's a totally comfy ride on a bike as well, with ample bike lanes on Spruce, Chestnut, and Market+
