Anyone read anything interesting about recent changes to road and building design motivated by terrorism (moreso in Europe) and rioting (moreso in the USA)?
I'm interested in rethinking city design to reduce or remove the ability for common terrorist or riot tactics to be used. Things like total separation of pedestrians and vehicles so there's no chance of them being used as weapons and if that's not possible, one interesting thing I came across was altering road layouts. A car or truck can't be used as a weapon if it can't maneuver or have the chance to build up speed. For rioting, things like reducing the amount of glass doors or windows on ground floors is an obvious move. Fires and explosives are an obvious concern and luckily an all alloy design might not be 100% necessary. Treated CLT coming out of Europe has excellent fire and seismic ratings and would be a more aesthetic material to use while still deterring attacks.
