Living in a very hilly area aka alps. Picrel is my daily beater. When I started out I felt the manufacturer made a wrong choice somewhere in the drivetrain. Now I only ever use the 3m development ratio when knee pain makes me worried. Usually I only ever use ratios 4-7, perhaps the third when I'm exhausted or something. Also I got panniers all around and the bike itself is a heavy ass thing. No need for a 1:1 gear, really never. Unless boozemobile (?) No need for small steps between ratios either unless worried about muh physiological optimal cadence of 102.846 rpm.
