Make sure you set them up to the easion tension so you can unclip without much effort, desu I just leave them in this mode since I've never had a foot accidentally unclip anyways.

>>1679606 said, if you put the cleat all the way back and in the middle you cant go too wrong unless you got some weird knee/leg problems but you probably would of felt those with semi-tight straps anyways. Just make sure you get shimano yellow cleats if ur doing road ones. For shoes make sure the shoe actually fits, if you get a shoe thats too big the cleat is probably going to be too far forward. If you have wide feet don't size up, get a wide fitting shoe, I had to learn this the hard(expensive) way since apparently I have hobbit feet.
