Had my bike since 1992 and I have no intention whatsoever of getting a new one. Bike frames last for decades, of course tyres and inner tubes need replacing from time to time, as do cables and even components. I bought my bike for £650 in june 1992, I estimate that I have spent another £200 - £300 during the intervening years on tyres, tubes, cables and other maintenance and minor repairs, although it's probably not that much as I kept the bike very well maintained and regularly strip and service it myself.
If you can't make something made of metal last for a couple of decades you need shooting.
