Mountains bikes are bullshit. They talk about how technology is so great now but the truth is that all they did was squish the triangle, add fatter tires, and then REEEE for two decades going "this brake is better, now this brake is better and this shock is better, now this shock is better" very little change in the geometry department besides going slightly more aggro then 80s originals and then returning to the original slightly slack 80s geometry.
It's all a bunch of bullshit. Do not buy a new mountain bike for slightly bigger tires or for geometry. They are liars.
Also it must be said that v brake hardtail is fine most mountain biking
