I'm poor, I think that's the main reason I never got into fancy cycling and never turned into a spandex wearing faggot on a roadie.
"bland touring bikes" are cheap to build, rigid frames don't break and the lack of speeds achievable on a roadie puts little stress on components.
Maintenance is limited to cleaning, lubricating and changing elements that wear.
