>What do you guys think of adult kick scooters / kickbikes?
I have one of these folding kick scooters, you can get a decent one for about $100.
I can't say I ever regretted the decision, but I also live in the middle of a city. These ones are only good on paved sidewalks, you'll need one with pneumatic tires to have more options as to which grounds you can drive on.
>Is it actually a different form of exercise?
Oh, definitely, you're probably gonna have some sore muscles after your first longer tour, even if you've been cycling for years.
>Can you go uphill on one?
Up to a degree yes, but when there's a steep hill I usually just get off of it and push it.
>if they have any practical utility at all.
They're great for distances up to about 2 kilometers or so. Unlike a bicycle, when you fold them together you can easily take them with you into stores or on subway trains. I use mine to get to work, and I just shove it under my desk.
They weigh anywhere between 3 and 7 kg. Mine can be pulled like a trolley, and there are shoulder straps for carrying them while keeping your hands free.
The main alternative to kick scooters would be skateboards, the problem is that you're gonna fall on your ass a lot more often on a skateboard than on a scooter.
