I am wildly suspicious of the "Gravel" meme thats come into full force lately. I get it but wasnt this just basically what you would do on a 90's CX bike ?
It has to be a big manufacturer marketing scheme. CX bikes are uncool, 90's bikes can be picked up dirt cheap, most modern dual suspension mountain bikes go up and down fast ans hardtails are relaxed and have the whole dirt jumper thing.
Now that discs have arrived on Road bikes "gravel" is a great way to sell expensive bikes that essentially used to be just plain CX. Tires too ! people want to go larger and they are happy to sell expensive tubeless that wear quickly. Some 2018 gravel bikes are approaching some of my old CX hardtail tire widths. Funny how those are in inches and theses are in millimeters. Also does any one jump or do like 3ft drop offs on gravel bikes ?
Also weathers better today . Time to wax my chains and polish up my steads today. Its been a total wash out 3 weekends in a row :(
