I had a bearing crack on the rear DS. It was a good hub (FH-MT62), and good bearings (Wheels Mfg grade 25), just some oddball defect.

The broken bearing looked like: imagine if you tapped a jawbreaker with a hammer, and you knock some of the layers off in one section, but the thing itself is mostly still a sphere.
That's not good enough to function though. It rotated to the broken patch and stuck there, started scratching the cup. Nothing terrible, but I'm sure it would have been worse if I had kept riding on it. (I did end up regrinding the hub later on.)
Really glad those two guys helped me out, I thought I was in for a real shitty day.
