>>1829659In a similar vein, the "Mitte-Deutschland-Verbindung" the Central German Connection, will finally be fully electrified in it's Thuringian section. It goes from the Rhine almost all the way to the Polish border, but right now only diesel trains can run on the section from Weimar to Goessnitz. With electrification, Jena, Gera and Chemnitz (combined population of about 400k) might finally get a regular connection to the intercity network again. They seem to have scraped together the funds now, so it's coming "soon"™.
