The hoods were all cracked up with age, one was in a usuable condition and i kept it. But i think I prefer the look without the hoods. I dont have any drop bar bikes at this time so they are necessary for me anyway. hoods only make sense on drops

I'm sure he's right but i've yet to have a problem following a similar philosophy to yours. The grease i found in the hubs wasnt seriously blackened with steel dust either.
