The hoods were all cracked up with age, one was in a usuable condition and i kept it. But i think I prefer the look without the hoods. I dont have any drop bar bikes at this time so they are necessary for me anyway. hoods only make sense on drops
>as long as they're shiny/ not pitted and from un-damaged bearing surfacesmy dad has told me many times over the years that shiny balls may be elliptical from wear and its always best to replace them when you're servicing from an unknown past. I'm sure he's right but i've yet to have a problem following a similar philosophy to yours. The grease i found in the hubs wasnt seriously blackened with steel dust either.
